What the price includes. The vehicle, fuel, your instructor, the course, and the drive out from the unit and back. All experience prices include VAT. A 50% deposit by bank transfer holds the date and you pay the balance on the day by cash, card or transfer.

One driver per session for now. The Land Rover has two seats at the moment, yours and the instructor's. Passengers come back when the rear seats go in. Spectators are welcome and free: they sign in at the quarry assembly point, get the same safety briefing, sign the disclaimer, and stay where the instructor puts them. Tell us how many when you book.

How a session runs

Nothing here is a competition and nobody is timing you. You set the pace and you can stop at any point.

    Unit 9, Springham Park, Spring Valley Industrial Estate. Up the road from B&Q, the main Post Office and Office World. Be there 10 minutes before the start time on your booking.

    How a 4x4 actually puts power down, what low range and the diff locks do, and how to read a surface before you commit to it.

    Out to South Barrule

    About 15 minutes south to the quarry. Anyone coming to watch meets us at the assembly point there, signs in and gets the briefing; we send directions with your booking email.

    You drive

    Low range in, centre diff locked, first climb. Your instructor is beside you for every section, and if you want another go at something, you get one.

South Barrule Quarry

A working government quarry in the south of the island that we have access to. It has an established off-road course, adapted to suit what we do: ascents, descents, ruts, loose surfaces and side slopes.

Ethan bought All Terrain Academy and set the business up in its current form in February 2026. He has driven 4x4s in Iceland and off road across the Isle of Man, and holds BORDA Part 1.

On experience days Ethan is the instructor beside you. He talks you through each section, helps you build confidence and gives you time to try again.

Team days

A morning, an afternoon or a whole day at the quarry for your team. Drivers rotate through the Land Rover and everyone else watches from the assembly point. Priced on the group, so tell us the numbers and we quote.

Why All Terrain Academy

All Terrain Academy is a member of the British Off Road Driving Association. Experience days are BORDA-certified, and professional courses are delivered by BORDA-qualified instructors.

South Barrule is a working government quarry with an established off-road course, adapted to suit what we do. Real ground, not a car park with some cones.

One driver at a time, on purpose

Your instructor is in the vehicle with you, not watching from the side, and nobody is waiting for their turn.

Questions people ask

Do I need a driving licence?

Yes. You need a full UK, Manx or international licence, and we need to see it before you drive.

What time do I turn up?

Choose an available date and start time. Your booking is confirmed by email after we receive your deposit. Every session includes the drive out to the quarry and back, about 15 minutes each way, so a Taster booked for 09:00 runs to 10:30. Be at the unit 10 minutes before your start. Sessions run in two blocks, mornings 09:00 to 12:30 and afternoons 13:30 to 17:00.

How do I pay?

A 50% deposit by bank transfer holds the date; the details come with your booking code. The balance is paid on the day by cash, card or transfer. Prices include VAT. Deposits are currently paid by bank transfer.

Can I bring someone to watch?

Yes, and it is free. Spectators sign in at the quarry assembly point, get the same safety briefing, sign the disclaimer, and stay where the instructor puts them. Tell us how many when you book, up to four.

Can I bring a passenger?

Not yet. The Land Rover has two seats at the moment, so it is you and the instructor. Anyone who wants to watch is welcome at the quarry assembly point for free. Passengers come back when the rear seats go in.

Where is South Barrule Quarry?

In the south of the island, about 15 minutes from the unit. It is a working government quarry we have access to, with an established off-road course adapted to suit what we do. Drivers meet us at Unit 9, Springham Park in Douglas and we go out together. Spectators get directions to the assembly point with the booking email.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We drive in most weather; it is part of the point. If we have to cancel for safety, you choose between a new date or a full refund.

What should I bring?

Your licence, a warm layer and a waterproof, and sturdy boots or trainers (no open toes). For the half day, bring a drink and something to eat.

How fit do I need to be?

Basic fitness is enough. You need to be able to climb into a high vehicle without help. If you are unsure, call us and we will talk it through.

What is the rule on alcohol?

Zero tolerance. Anyone we believe is under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not drive, and the booking is forfeited.

Is it a competition?

No. There is no timing and nobody is scored. You can stop at any point and nobody will mind.

How long is a gift voucher valid?

Twelve months from the day we issue it. The recipient calls or emails us with the code and we find them a date.

A 50% deposit confirms your booking once we acknowledge payment by email. Read the booking terms for changes, cancellations and what to expect on the day.
